LONDON — Man About Town on Monday unveiled the debut issue of its Chinese edition with famed Asian film directors Jia Zhang Ke, Bi Gan and Kitano Takeshi as the faces on different cover versions of the title.
The arrival of a local edition for the biannual British men’s fashion publication via a licensing agreement came after four years of collaboration between Wonderland, a women’s fashion magazine that also sits under Huw Gwyther’s media company Visual Talent, and the Beijing-based Lifestyle Media Group, the publisher of the Chinese editions of Madame Figaro and Ok!
The Chinese edition will be published monthly with a strong digital presence across key Chinese social media platforms. More covers of the launch issue will be revealed in the coming days.
Vic Chang, editor in chief of Wonderland China and publisher of Man About Town China, said the local edition of Man About Town “revolves around routine lives of quality men, angling from four major sections of attire, gourmet, living and traveling to explore further into the subtle connection between culture and life, film, art and technology constituting a strikingly stylized scene on the streets.”
Charlie Chin, former deputy fashion director at GQ China, will serve as the editorial director of Man About Town China.
“With the change of the times, we observe the role and image of Chinese men are undergoing an unprecedented evolution, so we feel this is the best moment to launch the media title in China, which will incorporate an in-depth excavation of the philosophy of living of contemporary male readers and their relationship with city life,” said Chin.
Founded in 2007 in London, Man About Town is known for its wide range offering of buzzy male models and celebrities on its cover with each issue shot by leading photographers such as Juergen Teller, Wolfgang Tillmans and Alasdair McLellan.
