Make delicious 50p chilli pasta with food blogger’s recipe

There are so many recipes out there for pasta, many of which call for a long list of ingredients.

While some are creamy and others are made with a rich tomato sauce, Scottish food influencer Renu Bhardwaj (@hey_renu) has a simple alternative.

Known for her quick, healthy recipes, Renu’s recipe for chilli and garlic pasta has amassed more than 91,000 likes on Instagram, with many branding it “gorgeous” and “delicious”.

Sharing the dish in a video posted on her Instagram page, she said: “For a quick lunch that hits the spot, it’s my version of the viral garlic noodles, this bangs and it’s really spicy!

“Make it a meal by adding any protein but it’s perfect this way.”

Method

The “sauce” relies on the fragrant herbs and spices blending into the olive oil, so takes just minutes to cook.

For this reason, it’s best to start by cooking the pasta according to packet instructions. This works well with spaghetti, linguine or similar to make the most of the flavours.

Next, move onto the coating by adding the oil to a non-stick saucepan, then throw in the finely chopped onion and cook for three minutes.

Add garlic after the onions have cooked for a while to stop it from burning, then continue to fry both ingredients until nicely golden.

Sprinkle in the seasoning mix and leave to fry until it bubbles, then reserve two tablespoons of the crispy sauce for topping.

Pour some pasta water into the pan to create a sauce, then tip the drained pasta into the pan and toss it to coat.

Add the crispy onion garlic and enjoy hot from the pan.
