There are many ways to cook poached eggs but few deliver the restaurant-quality results promised.
However, one TikTok content creator who “loves cooking” claims to have found a foolproof method worth trying.
After years of cooking for her family, Jennifer Valentyne has crafted an easy recipe to make poached without a pan or using the hob at all.
In a video posted on her profile, Jennifer demonstrated how to cook a “perfect” poached egg using just a cup of water, a dash of vinegar, and a microwave.
She branded it “the easiest poached egg you’ve ever made”.
Take a Pyrex jug and fill it with cold water plus a teaspoon of vinegar then crack the egg into it.
Using a light colour vinegar, such as white vinegar, is recommended as it stops the egg from becoming discoloured.
Substituting darker alternatives will provide the same acidity, but when it comes to the resultant flavour, it may be too strong to ignore.
The size of the cup doesn’t matter too much, and the variety of eggs used is down to personal taste. However, golden-yolk is best for that restaurant-quality look.
Once all the ingredients are in the cup, place it into a microwave for one minute on full power.
After this short blast in the appliance, the egg should be spot on, as put by Jennifer who showed an oozing, runny yolk in her TikTok video. She said: “That’s beautiful, look at that, perfect.”
Jennifer’s cooking demonstration sparked debate in the comments section on her TikTok profile.
Despite being recommended by many chefs, some commenters claimed that the use of vinegar is unnecessary.
A social media user named Rachel commented: “You don’t need the vinegar and I make poached eggs all the time.”
