Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav explains: Why his children stay in hostels, not in his official residences

Madhya Pradesh’s chief minister Mohan Yadav recently disclosed why his children don’t stay at his official residences. Mohan Yadav, who is father of two sons and a daughter, told NDTV that the decision was made after with careful consideration.
The first-time chief minister stated that his son, currently pursuing his MS after completing his MBBS in Bhopal, needs a conducive environment for studying. Yadav believes that the official residence’s environment may disrupt his son’s academic focus. Similarly, when his daughter was studying MBBS in Bhopal, Yadav insisted she reside in a hostel to maintain her academic focus, instead of official residence when he was a minister. He emphasized that his children understand and support his decision.

Responding to concerns about being too strict with his family, Yadav, 59, said it is crucial for family members to understand the demands of his position. He cautioned against a leader allowing familial concerns to dilute his/her professional responsibilities, emphasizing the need for vigilance as one’s responsibilities increase with authority.

Yadav’s political journey began in 2013 when he was elected as an MLA, subsequently winning re-election in 2018 and defending his seat in the Ujjain South constituency in the 2023 polls.

Eye on Chhindwara seat

Expressing confidence in prospects of BJP in the current Lok Sabha elections, Yadav anticipated victory in the Chhindwara seat, previously held by former Chief Minister Kamal Nath. Despite being a challenging constituency historically dominated by the Congress party, Yadav exuded optimism about the BJP’s prospects in Chhindwara, suggesting a potential shift in electoral dynamics. The seat, which went to polls alongside five other parliamentary seats in Madhya Pradesh, has been held by the Congress for over 70 years, primarily under the Nath family’s leadership. This election sees Nakul Nath, Kamal Nath’s son, contesting from the Chhindwara seat, while the BJP fields Vivek Bunty Sahu. The BJP aims to challenge the Congress’s stronghold in the region, with Chhindwara being a focal point in Madhya Pradesh’s political landscape. During the 2014 general elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 27 seats out of 29 parliamentary seats in the state while the Congress party managed to win two Guna and Chhindwara seats. Similarly, in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP won 28 and Congress party managed to win only one Chhindwara seat in the state.
