Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has been named the INDIA bloc chairperson. The decision was announced following a virtual meeting of the INDIA bloc leaders on January 13, 2024. Sources said that Bihar CM and JD(U) president Nitish Kumar rejected the post of convenor of the INDIA bloc. West Bengal CM and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee was absent from the meeting as she was attending a pre-decided state program.
