Lok Sabha Polls 2024: ‘Polls a mission to fix problems of state capital’: Rajeev Chandrasekhar

“After seeing the utter state of neglect of this constituency, both by the subsequent state governments and the successive MPs, and the penury of a large section of people here, for me, this election has become more than a contest but a mission to fix the problems that Thiruvananthapuram is faced with and give it a vision for development.
The public response is very encouraging,” said Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Union minister and BJP candidate in Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency against sitting Congress MP Shashi Tharoor.

Talking to ET, Chandrasekhar said fighting from Thiruvananthapuram was his own choice. “The decision to contest from Thiruvananthapuram was mine even though my leadership has been suggesting me to contest from some other areas, including from Karnataka or Delhi. But then I had told the prime minister that I would prefer the capital of my state to fight the LS election.”

“I am thankful to the leadership for agreeing to that. I am aware of the challenges my party has been facing in both the Thiruvananthapuram seat and in Kerala. But I see these opportunities to serve the people here. Taking up challenges and accomplishing my goals have been the way in my life right from the beginning when I dealt with the cellular phone sector, semiconductors and my days in the US and later in politics”.

Asked about the special campaign efforts the PM is undertaking in the state, especially in ThiruvananthapuramChandrasekhar said: “The PM’s campaign meetings, and me being seen as a member of his ministerial team and candidate with his full backing, helps a lot. But more than that, what has actually made a big difference is the high level of trust the people here have in the PM after seeing his works and on experiencing the benefits of the policies of the Modi government.””Thiruvananthapuram alone has about 24,800 people who got houses under the Modi government’s schemes and it has over four lakh beneficiaries of the Centre’s scheme to connect drinking water besides many other beneficiaries of the central schemes. For decades, both the Congress and Left have manufactured a totally false narrative about the BJP in Kerala to mislead the minorities here.”
