In Manipur’s Ukhrul, irate voters destroyed EVM after miscreants threatened them to vote for a certain party.
An official who does not want to be named told ET, “The incident took place in the polling station 44/41 and 44/50.”

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh uploaded a video on X where a miscreant was threatening voters.

He stated “Democracy is under threat. This video is from TODAY in Ukhrul District, Outer Manipur. Voters are being forced to vote only for the NPF, the BJP’s alliance partner, rather than the Congress. The security forces are standing there mutely as our democracy is hijacked. These are the most important elections of our lifetime”.

The outer Manipur parliamentary seat went to polls on Friday and over 70.66% votes were polled. Thirteen Assembly Segments of Outer Manipur (ST) Parliamentary Constituency spread across 8 districts went to the polls. Naga People’s Front (NPF) candidate K Timothy Zimik s contesting against Congress’s Alfred Kanngam S. Arthur. BJP has extended support to the NPF candidate. Around 15 voters were injured when a swarm of bees attacked those in voting queue at Barabill in Tripura’s Khowai district. Fire and Emergency Service personnel rushed to the spot.
