Libertine Fall 2024 Ready-to-wear Runway, Fashion Show & Collection Review

In the more is more camp of fashion, Libertine’s Johnson Hartig excels.

His fall 2024 collection was logo-less luxury peacocking at its best, tapping into the current love of all things surreal with floating eyes, ears, lips, airplane, jewel and flower galaxy prints on wearable tailoring and trenches.

Hartig showed off his flair for handcraft with colorful decorated buttons that read like porcelain pieces on a plaid jacket, and gobsmacker-sized crystals down the front of a plaid overcoat. And he played into his punk background, with plaid patches, newsprint and bits of poetry spelled out on men’s tailoring.

This season’s versions of his collectible evening coats sparkled with hand-placed crystals in blooming floral designs, or rainbow stripes.

Hartig also created photo-realistic prints of the view of L.A. landing at LAX at night, paying homage to his glitzy hometown, which has informed his brand of showy glamour. This season, that even trickled down to fun, feathery shoes and collaged sunglasses (he really should have an eyewear license).

For those who want a piece of Libertine’s maximalist world without the luxury price tag, a new LeSportsac collaboration showed some of his Pop art prints at a friendlier price. They’re on sale at Bergdorf Goodman now.
