Lahad Datu police chief among those investigated over his daughter’s death, say cops

PAPAR: Police are still conducting investigations into the death of the daughter of Lahad Datu district police chief ACP Dzulbaharin Ismail.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun said further investigations also involved the district police chief himself.

“An investigation is being conducted on him because he is the one who owns the gun,” he said when met by reporters after attending the Aidilfitri celebration of the Papar parliamentary constituency and Kawang state constituency here on Sunday (April 21).

Jauteh said the investigation had also not yet been able to draw any conclusions as to whether the case was related to negligence or otherwise.

“That’s something we haven’t been able to make a decision on. We haven’t made a final decision yet until there is a full report on the results of the investigation,” he said.

He said police had not yet decided whether the district police chief would be suspended because the investigation was still ongoing.

On April 17, Bernama reported that the cause of death of Dzulbaharin’s 14-year-old daughter, who was found covered in blood in a room at her home in Taman Tabanak, Lahad Datu on April 16, was due to a gunshot to the right chest.

Sabah deputy police commissioner DCP Datuk Shahurinain Jais said the autopsy conducted at Lahad Datu Hospital found that there was only one gunshot wound on the victim’s body. – Bernama
