KJP Declines to Share a Timeline for When Biden Will Visit Baltimore After Bridge Collapse – IJR

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre is not offering a timeline for when President Joe Biden plans to visit Baltimore, Maryland.

During a press briefing on Wednesday, a reporter asked, “Any update on when the president will go to Baltimore?”

“I don’t have an update for you. Obviously we want to do it when it is the appropriate time on the ground…We don’t want to get in the way, but you heard from the president. He wants to get there as quickly as he can,” she added.

Early Tuesday morning, a Singapore-flagged cargo ship, the Dali, was leaving Baltimore when it slammed into the Francis Scott Key Bridge.

Video with a time stamp of just before 1:30 a.m. showed the Dali hitting the bridge, causing it to promptly collapse into the Patapsco River, sending cars into the water.

According to CNN, the ship lost power before the crash and notified officials before it slammed into the bridge, and Maryland Gov. Wes Moore said the message likely saved lives.

“We’re thankful that between the mayday and the collapse, that we had officials who were able to begin to stop the flow of traffic so more cars were not on the bridge,” Moore told reporters.

Hours later, Biden said he wanted to travel to Baltimore “as quickly as I can.”

Biden has previously taken quite some time to visit the seen of a disaster or accident. It took him a year to visit East Palestine, Ohio, after a train derailed in the town and spilled toxic chemicals.
