Key player SUSPENDED, will miss Soweto derby!

Kaizer Chiefs have been dealt a big blow with one of their key players picking up a suspension ahead of the Soweto derby against Orlando Pirates.

The Soweto derby is around the corner.

However, not every Amakhosi player will be available…

CHIEFS DEFENDER SUSPENDED

Edmilson Dove is set to miss the Soweto derby showdown against Orlando Pirates after picking up a red card against Moroka Swallows.

He was shown red for bringing down former Bucs star Gabadinho Mhango. Dove was the last man in defense. Therefore, he will take no part in the first Soweto derby of 2024.

Meaning, Cavin Johnson will have to find a replacement for Dove when selecting his starting XI to do battle at the FNB Stadium this weekend.

Defense will be key for Amakhosi given the magnitude of attacking players at the Bucs. Moreover, they boast the likes of Evidence Makgopa, Zakhele Lepasa and PSL veteran, Kermit Erasmus up front. Makgopa’s career has been rejuvenated after Hugo Broos selected him to start every game for Bafana Bafana at Afcon. Whilst, Lepasa was a regularly used substitute for the national side.

AMAKHOSI TRIO AT RISK OF MISSING THE SOWETO DERBY

Yusuf Maart, Pule Modi and Edson Castillo are all one booking away from suspension.

So, they will all have to tread lightly when Amakhosi takes on Golden Arrows on Tuesday. If any of these men are booked against Arrows they will miss the Soweto derby this weekend. Cavin Johnson will have to consider this when selecting his team to take on Arrows.
