Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut has revealed that she has a script ready for a film on the Bilkis Bano case, but her ambitions face opposition from studios and OTT platforms. The actress, known for her outspoken nature and fearless portrayals, took to social media on Tuesday (January 9th) to share her struggles in getting the project greenlight.

Just one day after the Supreme Court overturned the remission of 11 Bilkis Bano convicts, a social media user ignited Kangana’s passion for the story. Suggesting the powerful potential of portraying Bilkis’ fight against a corrupt system, the user prompted Kangana’s response: “I want to make that story. I have the script ready, researched and worked on it for three years.”
However, Kangana’s enthusiasm was met with resistance from industry giants. Netflix, Amazon India, and other studios reportedly cited their “clear guidelines” against politically motivated films. JioCinema, she claims, declined due to her alleged BJP support, while Zee’s merger created further uncertainty.

Reacting to the post, an X user commented, “What does the BJP ideology have to do with the art.” Another user mocked Ranaut saying, “Kangana wrote the script of blockbuster movie Tejas which broke even box office records of jawan, even then Netflix and prime are not ready to work with her,this clearly shows she is being sidelined by the Bollywood Mafia.” Meanwhile, another comment read, “Try indie film fests, crowdfunding, or smaller productions.”
Speaking of the professional front, the 36-year-old actress was last seen in Tejas, which did not perform well at the box office. She will be next seen in Emergency, essaying the role of late politician Indira Gandhi, who was also the Prime Minister of India. The film was scheduled to be released in November 2023, however, it will be released in 2024 now.
