Joy to see people of different races celebrating Chinese New Year, says Dr Wee

KUALA LUMPUR: It is a joy to see people of different races coming together to celebrate Chinese New Year, says MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

He said that this is a norm in Malaysia for people to celebrate each other’s festivals and holidays, adding that this is not a strange sight in this country.

“This is the uniqueness of Malaysian culture,” he said in a post on social media sharing photos of various celebrations he attended on Sunday (Feb 18).

Dr Wee said this after attending the Johor MCA Chinese New Year Open House in Labis; aside from this, he was invited by MCA Treasurer-General Tan Tuan Peng to the Pasir Gudang MCA Division Chinese New Year celebration in Johor Bahru on Sunday.

“In my speech, I welcomed the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone Plan (JS-SEZ) which will commence next year, according to the schedule,” said Dr Wee.

He added that he strongly believes that the implementation of this plan will bring positive changes to the economy as Johor has a great advantage as the southern region’s main gateway.

“At the same time, it will stimulate economic growth, and generate investment, business and employment opportunities, which can benefit the people of Johor as well as Malaysians,” he said.

Dr Wee said invited guests who attended the open house include MCA deputy treasurer general Adrian Lee, Pekan Nanas assemblyman Tan Eng Meng and MCA Johor treasurer and Kota Tinggi MCA division chairman Datuk Ng Keng Heng among others, which also included representatives from Umno and MIC.
