Jaffa Cakes new flavour dubbed ‘rancid’ by some fans as new launch divides opinion

Jaffa Cakes’ new, limited edition flavour launched today nationwide and some eager fans have already run to the shops to try it.

However, the beverage-inspired McVitie’s treat appears to be less attractive to shoppers than other versions, like the beloved raspberry edition.

Jaffa Cake lovers can now pick up a 10-pack of the cola sweet-flavoured cakes from Asda for £1.25.

A cake bar format will come out on July 22 in Tesco stores, with other supermarkets stocking it from August too. These will be sold at £1.80 for a pack of five.

McVitie’s MD Adam Woolf said the release was in response to the “huge appetite among the next generation of snacking shoppers for something genuinely new and different”.

But on social media, reviews appear to be mixed, with one food account sharing: “Surprisingly the flavour worked very well, the Cola Bottle taste is spot on!”

“A flavour which makes you ‘umm’ at first thought but they work very well. [They’re] so good,” one person commented.

According to the Mirror, another online user echoed: “They are so nice.”

However, others criticised the new flavour, with one comment even branding it “rancid”.

“It’s a NO from me, there were grim,” added another dissatisfied fan.

Meanwhile, a representative for McVitie and Price, the company behind Jaffa Cakes, has revealed that the chocolate part of the much-loved treat is actually the bottom.

This revelation means that generations have been gripping and gobbling Jaffa Cakes in an inverted fashion, reports the Mirror.

The truth emerged when a curious individual named David reached out to the official Jaffa Cake page to settle the debate once and for all, asking “what side of the Jaffa is the bottom?”

The response he received, which he shared in a screenshot on the Facebook group Family Lockdown Tips and Ideas, showed the brand clarifying: “Hi David, our Jaffa Cakes go through a reservoir of chocolate, so the chocolate is on the bottom. Thanks, Jaffa Cakes.”
