‘It’s driving me nuts’ iPhone owners yell over ‘infuriating’ WhatsApp bug that saves photos TWICE

THOUSANDS of iPhone owners say their WhatsApp is malfunctioning and automatically saving photos shared inside the app into their Photo app twice.

The issue appears to have emerged over the last few days, with WhatsApp users taking to social media and customer support channels to seek help.

In an Apple community support discussion, one customer posted: “On my iPhone my WhatsApp is set to automatically save the photos I receive on Photos.

“For me this was working just fine, but a couple of days ago Photos started to save each photo twice.

“This means that now, if I receive one photo via WhatsApp and then I go to Photos, the same pic appears duplicated.”

Apple has pointed iPhone owners towards WhatsApp’s customer support channels.

I thought my new iPhone hacked or something. This is annoying!

However, the Meta-owned messenger has yet to make a statement on the matter.

And customers are having trouble resolving the issue themselves.

“I’ve been searching settings on my phone to try to fix this with no luck, I’ve been looking for it also through the internet but I cannot find the solution,” the iPhone owner added.

“I also tried turning off the “save in Photos” setting, then turning off my phone and then turning “save in Photos” back on but didn’t work either.”

How do WhatsApp Channels work?

Another WhatsApp user said the issue has made it a “constant battle” to manage their storage and Photo albums.

While others on Reddit feared that they had been hacked.

“I thought my new iPhone hacked or something. This is annoying!,” they wrote.

Another replied: “Same here, started happening yesterday.

“Might be some recent update with a bug. Probably gonna be corrected soon.”

While a third user wrote: “Been having this exact same issue. It’s driving me nuts.”

At first, iPhone owners believed the issue was caused by Apple’s latest update iOS 17.4, which rolled out on 5 March.

However, as more people take to social media, more have claimed that they haven’t updated to the latest iOS yet.

Therefore, the issue appears to lie with WhatsApp, although this has not yet been confirmed.

The Sun has contacted Meta for comment.
