Premier League, Ligue 1 and NBA are among the major leagues available at launch.

And there are plans to add more sports in future.

Users in the UK, US and Canada will be able to download the new Apple Sports app from today (February 21).

The app lets you navigate between scores and upcoming games, as well as explore play-by-play information, team stats, lineup details, and live betting odds.

Users can choose to switch the live betting odds option off.

And there are no ads on the app either.

“We created Apple Sports to give sports fans what they want — an app that delivers incredibly fast access to scores and stats,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Services.

“Apple Sports is available for free in the App Store, and makes it easy for users to stay up to date with their favourite teams and leagues.”

There’s also a button that will take you to the relevant streaming app where that game is being shown live – you’ll still need to be a subscriber of those platforms to actually watch them.

You can even favourite your teams so they appear at the top of the app whenever they’re playing.

Which sports can I track on Apple Sports?

From today, users can track the following sport leagues:

  • MLS
  • NBA
  • NCAA basketball (men’s and women’s)
  • NHL
  • Bundesliga
  • LaLiga
  • Liga MX
  • Ligue 1
  • Premier League
  • Serie A

There are already plans to add MLB, NFL, NCAAF, NWSL, and WNBA for their upcoming seasons, as well as other sports in future.

The app will work on any iPhone model running iOS 17.2 or later.

Oliver Schusser, Apple’s vice president of Apple Music, Apple TV+, Sports, and Beats, added: “We’re incredibly proud to introduce Apple Sports, a new free app from Apple built for sports fans.

“We’re so excited to offer our customers a simple and fast way to access scores and stats to stay up-to-date with all their favourite teams and leagues.”

The app is available to download now from the App Store.

iPhone tricks to try today

Here are some of the best…

  • Typing cursor – When typing, hold down the space bar to turn your keyboard into a trackpad, letting you move around words and sentences more easily
  • Close all Safari tabs – To do this in one go, simply hold the overlapped squares in the bottom right-hand corner, and press close all tabs
  • Delete lots of photos quickly – Hold down on a photo and then drag your finger diagonally in Photos to select lots of images at once, then hit delete
  • Convert currency quickly – Swipe down from the top of your Home screen (or swipe left to right on an iPhone X or later model), then tap in the bar and type a currency (like $200) and it will automatically covert to your local currency
  • Check if you’re due a battery upgrade – Batteries inside smartphones degrade over time. Just go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health, and check out the Maximum Capacity reading. Generally a battery is considered worn when you’re down to 80% capacity. If you’re below, you can buy a battery swap from Apple
  • Move apps around faster – Hold an app until it starts wiggling, then (while still holding) tap other apps, causing them to stack so you can move them around easier
