iPhone 17 Pro Max will no longer be top-end, iPhone 17 Slim to be the most expensive model: report

A new slim iPhone might be coming soon

  • According to a new report by The Information, the new Slim iPhone, probably dubbed the iPhone 17 Slim will be the most premium variant in the series.
  • This means the model will be costlier than the iPhone Pro Max variant.
  • For context, the iPhone 15 Plus variant is Rs 10,000 costlier than the base iPhone variant. iPhone 15 launched at Rs 79,990, while the Plus model starts at Rs 89,990, and the Pro Max variant at Rs 1.59 lakh.

This new slim iPhone move, considering it’s indeed coming, comes after the Cupertino giant introduced the thinnest iPad Pro at the ‘Let Loose’ event. This new slimness obsession could be coming down to iPhones as well. For context, iPhone 6 at 6.9mm was one of the slimmest models.

Sources in the know suggest the alleged iPhone 17 Slim will be on the lines of an iPhone X-level leap forward in terms of design language for Apple. The iPhone X introduced a notch and bezel-less design, which was a huge shift from the typical thick-bezel designs of iPhone 8 and previous models.

The iPhone 17 Slim is expected to be ‘significantly thinner’ than any iPhone model and may house an aluminium chassis. However, it looks like the design is not finalised at the moment and there are several options in the works. While the screen size is not clear at the moment, the previous report stated the iPhone 17’s Slim display will be smaller than the iPhone 15’s 6.7-inch panel.

Design-wise, the Dynamic Island could be slightly smaller and the camera island might be shifted to the centre. As for the reason why the iPhone Plus model is being discontinued, the sales don’t appear to be encouraging and the new ‘Slim’ phone will give a new direction for Apple and will attract more people to buy the new Slim phone.
