India world’s trusted friend, says PM, ‘guarantees’ to put it among top 3 economies | India News

GANDHINAGAR: India’s remarkable resilience in the face of prevailing uncertainties is providing hope to a world that now looks at it as a trusted friend, a pillar of stability and a global growth engine, PM Narendra Modi said at the inauguration of the 10th edition of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit on Wednesday while stamping his “guarantee” on projections about the country breaking into the hallowed circle of top three economies in a few years.
At the summit, Reliance Industries Ltd chairman Mukesh Ambani called Modi the “greatest global leader” of the current generation. “He is Shri Narendra bhai Modi, the most successful PM in India’s history.”
Several business conglomerates unveiled massive spending plans in the state, with green energy and semiconductors accounting for the largest project commitments. UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan was the chief guest at the event themed “Gateway to Future”, which is being billed as the “Davos of the East”.
“UAE firmly believes in the power of building bridges of cooperation to promote economic growth, and fostering international collaboration to address global challenges and help achieve stability and prosperity for all,” said Al Nahyan, whom Modi credited with spurring a rapid growth in India-UAE ties.
Listing the triggers for India’s improved economic profile, the PM said structural reforms initiated by his government were at the heart of the growth momentum that had enhanced the economy’s capacity, capability and competitiveness.
“Several rating agencies have predicted that India will be among the world’s top three economies. Those who want to analyse can do so,” he said to a roar from the audience at the 15,000-capacity venue. Modi spoke of India’s demographic dividend as the driving force of this growth and predicted that the business fraternity would reap “unimaginable” results by partnering with the aspirational young generation.
“You are not just investing in India, but shaping young creators and consumers,” he said, adding that the world was acknowledging the country as a powerhouse of talented youth and a democracy that delivers.
“The world is seeing India as a partner that believes in people-centric development, a voice that believes in global good, a voice of the global south… a technology hub for finding solutions,” he said. The Digital India Mission, Modi said, was transforming life and business.
“In 10 years, the availability of affordable phones and cheap data has revolutionised digital inclusion, and lives of common people are changing.” Around 1.1 lakh people from at least 100 countries have registered for the event. Heads of state or senior functionaries of 20 countries and about a dozen trade associations are participating in the summit.
