Bollywood actor Imran Khan last appeared in movies when he featured in the film Katti Batti alongside Kangana Ranaut. Unfortunately, the movie did not perform well at the box office. Post the downfall of the film, actor Imran Khan decided to quit the film industry. Additionally, Imran delved into the industry’s tendency to prioritize box office earnings and financial aspects over the artistic journey of actors, expressing his lack of resonance with this approach.
During an interview with Film Companion, Imran opened up about the ecosystem of the Bollywood industry. The actor said that starting from publicity and PR to management, the B-town works on this ecosystem. In this atmosphere, the predominant focus lies on financial considerations—be it film earnings, endorsements, public appearances, or even trivial events such as ribbon-cutting ceremonies, said the actor. He also said that over the period of time, he realized that his love for films wasn’t driven by money.
When Imran was asked about the failure of Katti Batti and if that triggered him to quit the industry, the actor said, “Yes. At that moment I didn’t consider it in that way, and I never said, ‘Okay, on this day, I’m done, I quit.’ It was kind of a process of a week becoming a month, a month becoming three and becoming a year, and a year becoming two where I said, ‘Okay, I won’t do this because my heart’s not in it.’”
“Effectively I spent my 20s, working and building and setting up a career. In my 30s, that ended up not being the thing that I felt like focusing on. Life took me in another direction. Effectively these past 10 years I have spent kind of grappling with the larger questions of who am I, what I want to do, and what I want to be. A series of life circumstances led me to a place where I was not getting the fulfillment,” the actor added.
As the conversation progressed, Khan also revealed that he was not afraid to consider different paths, even if they were completely new to him. He added that it is his good fortune that he is financially stable, due to which he can focus on other aspects of life, asking himself who he wants to be and how he wants to live.
