Dubai captured the world’s attention yet again with their ‘out of this world’ food creations. The United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) popular and exquisite city is the dream destination for many.
Food trends are one of the main reasons Dubai was, and still is, so talked about this year. Jacaranda FM reported on their ‘iced coffee’ trend on 3 December 2024, which has been going viral since the middle of the year. Here’s more on the iced coffee craze and other food trends which came from Dubai – some loved while others not so much.
THE ‘ICED COFFEE’ CRAZE
The ‘iced coffee’ trend was first seen in July 2024. Its popularity hasn’t dwindled as there are still different variations of it being shared on social media. A video posted on a travel Instagram page showed one of them.
It shows a huge ice cube decorated with flowers on top. It has a square-shaped cavity in the middle filled with ice cubes and milk. Coffee and syrup are added and mixed before finishing off with a straw. Other variations of the ‘iced coffee’ have a smaller-sized cube and the cavity is shaped like a glass.
DUBAI’S VIRAL PISTACHIO CHOCOLATE BAR
One of the Dubai’s biggest food trend that went viral is the pistachio chocolate bars. The big-sized chocolate delicacies with a soft centre became an instant hit. Countries like Germany even came up with their own variation, which also gained widespread attention. The South African also reported on these chocolate bars being available in South Africa – with a hefty price tag though.
PARKER’S MATILDA CAKE
Harper’s Bazaar Arabia reported on other top food tends in Dubai. One of them is Parker’s Matilda cake, which got its name from the children’s book Matilda, is said to be the gooiest chocolate cake ever. It raked tens of millions of views on platforms like TikTok.
PISTACHIO KINAFA CAKE AND RIBBON CROISSANT
Other food creations that became trendy are the pistachio kinafa cake and ribbon croissants made by Caia. The cake was a limited edition and the ribbon croissants ate available plain or stuffed with Nutella or pistachio.
GIANT CROISSANT AND COFFEE
Another interesting delicacy is the giant croissant and coffee from Bakerist. The croissant comes in sweet and savoury flavours such as chocolate, raspberry and cheese.
