Crispy skin is the difference between a deliciously cooked jacket potato and a pile of inedible mush.
Whether you’re someone who prefers theirs topped with tuna and mayo or keep it simple with cheese and beans, this dish makes for a fantastic lunch.
To keep the cooking time to a minimum, but also get that crispy skin on your potato, food experts at @mob on TikTok have shared a nifty recipe.
They claimed that you can achieve a “really nice crispy skin” without using your oven in the process. The video was captioned: “Making a perfect jacket potato in under 15 minutes.”
The expert begins by using a fork to poke the potato multiple times round.
This is essential as whole potatoes contain trapped moisture, so piercing the potatoes allows that moisture to exit and reduces the chances of it exploding.
She then puts the potato on a plate and places it in the microwave for six minutes, which makes the potato “quite squishy”.
The potato is then covered all over in oil, which is a “must”, and flaky salt.
The expert then places the prepped potato in the air fryer for seven minutes.
Taking the potato out of the air fryer, the expert said: “I don’t know what I was expecting, but it’s got a really nice crispy skin.”
Aside from the crispy skin, the inside of the potato looked super fluffy and not dry at all.
To finish off the potato, it was then topped with butter and grated cheese.
The expert added: “It’s actually so tasty. The skin is really crispy, the insides fluffy and I put loads of cheese on it so it tastes great.”
