NEW DELHI: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi on Saturday dismissed Prime Minister Modi’s claims that the voters rejected the grand old party in the first phase of Lok Sabha polls. She also went on to question how the PM Modi was aware , when the results are yet to be out.
‘How does he know? The results are not out yet,’ the Congress leader said speaking at a poll rally in the Chalakudy Lok Sabha seat in Kerala, which is due to go to polls in less than a week.
‘I do not know how they can be so confident when the results have not come. We are all working very hard, ‘she added.
She also questioned how the PM and BJP can claim that they will get over 400 seats this time.

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also singled out the BJP government on a range of issues including the farmers protest and Article 370 abrogation in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Congress leader accused the BJP led center of bypassing democratic process and passing bills forcefully against the will of the people.
‘In this ‘new’ nation, laws are enacted bypassing the process of democracy and enforced upon people against their will. Lakhs of farmers protested for months, some of them died, and some of them were called terrorists, and anti-national, yet they continued their protest,,’ she said.
In a veiled attack at the Prime Minister who has campaigned extensively in the state in the lead up to the elections, Priyanka Gandhi claimed that policies are made for the benefit of the PM’s ‘monopolist friends,’ while common people are pushed to unemployment and poverty.
The Congress leader also alleged that while Prime Minister Narendra Modi was claiming to fight for Nari Shakti, his government was protecting rapists.
“Those in power tell women what to wear, they propagate laws that demand women’s movements to be registered with the police, and they claim the right to decide whom women can love and whom they can marry. The government protects rapists and defends the oppressors and abusers of women, they vilify victims of heinous crimes using the entire strength of their administrations to question the characters of victims of abuse.”
Referring to the Prime Minster’s remark that he was ‘indebted to the constitution,’ Gandhi accused the BJP of trying to hijack the constitution that was ‘written with the blood of our freedom fighters and martyrs.’
‘They treat the Constitution of India as an instrument of their own greed and ambition, as if it is a piece of paper,’ she alleged.
Referring to the electoral bonds, she dubbed them as a form of “extortion” and alleged that the government agencies, meant to protect the law, were being “turned into unlawful extornists” and also used to silence voices of dissent.

‘Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan has blasted Congress leader in such a language that even I do not use for them. I am sure Congress will look for another safe seat for its Shahjada after voting in Wayanad is completed.’
