HMS Prince of Wales leads a 15-ship international fleet in a major Nato exercise.

The aircraft carrier, headed by Swedish and Finnish jets in formation, was taking part in Exercise Nordic Responder 24.

It was joined by HMS Portland, destroyer USS Paul Ignatius and Norwegian vessels.

The units are taking part in Exercise Nordic Response 24, a multi-domain exercise in the northern Nordic region until Friday.

The UK Ministry of Defence say: “The CSG has been exercising F-35B strikes to simulate defence of allied territory, whilst simultaneously defending itself.

“The ATG has been exercising landing amphibious units ashore to retake allied territory.”

Nations included in a series of recent war games include the UK, United States, Canada, France, Germany, Italy and Norway.

Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, the Netherlands, Portugal and Spain will also take part.

Exercise Nordic Response 24 is part of Exercise Steadfast Defender 24, the largest Nato exercise in decades.
