HMD and Heineken launch ‘Boring Phone’ with translucent design and no smartphone features

Boring Phone design

  • It is a flip-form phone based on the Nokia 2660 Flip.
  • It weighs 123g.

  • The highlight is its translucent casing though which shows the internals. Another aspect of the design is holographic stickers. It is inspired by Newtro culture, which shows Gen Z’s love for retro fashion.
  • Since Gen-Z largely suffers from doomscrolling and digital despair, Boring Phone is aimed at them as the anti-smartphone solution. So, you won’t be able to browse the web, use time-consuming apps, social media channels, etc.
  • However, it does feature the classic snake game from old Nokia phones since HMD has its license.

Boring Phone specifications

  • Display: The inner screen stretches 2.8 inches and is of QVGA resolution. Outside, there is a 1.77-inch screen.
  • Camera: You get to take photos and capture videos using a 0.3MP camera with LED flash.
  • Memory: In terms of storage, it comes with 128MB ROM, backed by up to 32GB microSD support.
  • Miscellaneous: You get connectivity options like 2G, 3G, and 4G, and Bluetooth 4.2. There is a 3.5mm headphone jack also.

Boring Phone isn’t going on sale though. Only 5,000 units of it have been made. The company will be giving it away through social media channels in the UK and soon other markets.

However, if you fail to get your hands on one, you can use a new app from the company that turns a smartphone into a boring phone. HMD will be releasing it in June.
