Hawthorn veteran Sam Frost proposes to partner Laura in the Arctic Circle

Hawthorn veteran Sam Frost and partner Laura are engaged.

Frost popped the question in Finland’s Lapland region in the Arctic Circle, which seems an appropriate location given his surname.

The 30-year-old posted a stunning photo of himself getting down on one knee with the northern lights in the background.

“Fingers nearly broke off while getting the ring out of my pocket in -30 degrees but was worth it in the end,” he wrote on Instagram.

The post was flooded with comments and likes from current and former teammates, as well as other AFL players.

“Northern lights proposal. You win,” Melbourne captain Max Gawn wrote.

“Literally frosty! Congratulations,” Geelong superstar Jeremy Cameron said.

“Jesus Christ that’s romantic,” retired former teammate Josh Bruce said.

“Huge!! Congrats guys,” teammate Lloyd Meek said.

Frost began his career at Greater Western Sydney in 2012 before moving to Melbourne at the end of 2014 and then finding his way to Hawthorn ahead of the 2020 season.

He has played 159 games, including 18 last year as he established himself as a key member of the Hawks’ backline.

The speedy defender’s chaotic style of play has often endeared himself to fans.

The engagement continues a happy off-season for the club with veteran forward Luke Breust and wife Anthea announcing they are expecting their first child.

The happy couple made the announcement on Christmas Day.

“A very special Christmas this year with the best present arriving in 2024,” they wrote in a joint post.

Meanwhile, Hawthorn coach Sam Mitchell is set to have a staggered return to the club after suffering a serious bout of pneumonia while on holiday with his family in New York.

Mitchell spent time in hospital and is due to return to Melbourne later this week.

The players will be back at pre-season training from Wednesday.
