Harvard students return to clueless bubble after disinviting Michelle Wu to speak – Boston Herald

Harvard students can return to their clueless bubble now after withdrawing a speaking invite to Boston Mayor Michelle Wu because of her decision to shut down an Emerson protest.

So instead of hearing from Wu herself about why she had to have police arrest students who were causing a public safety issue, the Harvard students can return to supporting the Hamas terrorists.

Wu is a loyal Harvard grad and didn’t have anything bad to say about the school or its students – taking the high road.

It’s actually a badge of honor for the Boston mayor to be rejected by nearly a dozen student groups. The Crimson reported that Wu was originally invited to speak at an event organized by the Asian American Foundation and co-sponsored by several other student organizations.

One member of the South Asian Association said in a text the group was not comfortable with Wu speaking because of the “violent police presence” at Emerson.

The police action was not violent. The students were warned by police multiple times that they had to leave before officers finally moved in. Several police officers were injured and some students complained of getting hurt by zip ties around their hands.

“I’d fully planned to engage in discussion with students about ongoing events and news, and to welcome their feedback, but I respect their preferences to use our time elsewhere and wish everyone well with the end of the school year,” Wu said in a statement.

The mayor said she always tries to comply with student requests to speak because of her undergraduate experience at Harvard, but rarely gets out of Boston because of her duties as mayor.

It’s too bad. The students could have benefited from hearing from the progressive mayor and her efforts to turn Boston into a Wutopia, with bike lanes everywhere and no carbon emissions coming from buildings. They would have appreciated that.

Wu said she along with police decided to take down the Emerson encampment for public safety reasons, because it was in a public alley. Under a city ordinance, the police were empowered to make 118 arrests to enforce the law. Now the students are complaining because their pictures have been in the Herald.

“The commissioner and I jointly agreed that the growing encampment needed to be removed in order to address the public safety and fire hazards that it presented,” Wu said in a statement.

Wu has been under fire from fellow progressives because of the decision, but politically it could actually help her win reelection next year by appealing to moderates and conservatives. No one has yet stepped forward to challenge her.

It’s hard to tell how long Wu will be persona non grata with the students but it could be awhile judging by how they’ve booed and heckled Democrats like President Biden because of the U.S. support of Israel in the war against Hamas.

Wu has generally been teflon since she was elected in 2021, winning plaudits from suck ups in the liberal media, but she’s also been the subject of severe criticism from some groups like North End restaurant owners.

We’ll wait for the editorials gently chiding her for arresting the students. They will be coming.
