Gregg Wallace’s ‘delicious’ and ‘healthy’ sweet and sour chicken recipe

TV presenter Gregg Wallace, who has been candid about his own weight loss journey, shared his version of a sweet and sour chicken dish which he describes as “incredibly delicious” and “super healthy”.

The Masterchef presenter has been open about his weight loss journey after losing five stone.

The 59-year-old, who once weighed in at 17 stone, embarked on a healthier lifestyle after medical professionals advised him to shed the pounds.

He regularly shares his weight loss tips and tricks on social media, recently posting a Chinese “fakeaway” recipe that he believes outshines any takeaway meal.

Gregg created the wholesome sweet and sour chicken dish after challenging his wife on TikTok to see if he could make a “fakeaway” faster than she could place an order and pick it up.

“To celebrate this, I am sharing my sweet and sour chicken recipe for you all to enjoy yourselves rather than spending money on a takeaway this weekend,” he announced.

In order to keep the knife from slipping, the chef provided a helpful suggestion in the video: chop peppers and chillies on the blunt side.

The recipe serves two and is relatively simple and quick to prepare, according to the Daily Record.

How to make Gregg Wallace’s sweet and sour chicken recipe

Ingredients:

  • 100g Chopped Pineapple
  • One tbsp Soy Sauce
  • One tsp Grated Ginger
  • One tbsp Olive oil
  • 230ml Pineapple Juice
  • 400g Chicken (diced)
  • One tsp Garlic granules
  • One tbsp Honey
  • Two Peppers (chopped)
  • 400g Passata
  • Three Spring onions (chopped)
  • 250g Cooked Brown Rice

Method:

1. Firstly, prepare the ingredients and put the rice on to cook.

2. Next, add olive oil to the pan. Once it’s hot, add the chicken and cook until it’s completely white and cooked through.

3. Once the chicken is cooked, add the ginger, garlic granules, spring onion and pepper to the pan. Stir and cook for about five minutes before adding the passata, soy sauce, honey and pineapple juice to the pan. Stir it and let it thicken.

4. Once the sauce is thick, add in the pineapple chunks. If the sauce hasn’t thickened up enough, add some corn flour. Serve with cooked rice.
