GOOD start for vehicle licence renewals in 2024

It’s great news for vehicle licence renewals in 2024, with the establishment of hundreds of Smart Enrollment Units (SEUs) across South Africa. According to TopAuto these will continue to be installed at Driver’s Licence Testing Centres (DLTCs) in the next three months.

As a result, vehicle licence renewals in 2024 should be a lot quicker and easier. The SEUs are the brainchild of Driving Licence Card Account Entity (DLCA). More than 300 SEUs were installed in 2023 and a further 900 are planned between now and April 2024.

There are a host of alternatives for vehicle licence renewals in 2024. However, Transport Minister, Sindisiwe Chikunga, believes the SEUs will hold sway once up and running. 1 200 are planned in 427 DLTCs, she confirmed in a parliamentary question session.

The SEUs were first trialed one and a half years ago at Waterfall Park and Ecopark, with much success. In fact, those two DLTCs have been ranked the best for processing time ever since.

They assist with the electronic capturing of details during booking. ID photos, fingerprints, and other information is captured in real-time and integrated with the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) and eNatis database.

According to Minister Chikunga, more than 108 000 renewals have been successfully processed by SEUs. As a result, queuing times have lessened from an average of 30 minutes to a maximum of 20 minutes, claims Chikunga.
