Ghana: Will Akufo-Addo’s local assembly reshuffle be an election gambit?

President Nana Akufo-Addo announced the decision to revoke the appointments of 24 municipal and district chief executives on 2 February, barely a week after his New Patriotic Party (NPP) elected its parliamentary candidates for the 2024 elections.

“I will respectfully request that you give immediate effect to my directive,” a letter from the president to the local government minister, Dan Botwe said.
