Gayton McKenzie claps back on ‘interfering’ Joslin search criticism

A livid Gayton McKenzie has clapped back at political calls for him to “stop interfering” in the search for missing Saldanha Bay child Joslin Smith.

This after he criticised the DA over their promises to ramp up resources like helicopters, drones, speedboats, and a K9 unit.

Over the past two days, Gayton has stepped back after the City of Cape Town promised to assist financially.

GAYTON MCKENZIE CLAPS BACK OVER JOSLIN SMITH CRITICISM

In a Facebook post on Friday, 1 March, Gayton McKenzie shared his frustrations after the DA criticised his efforts to find Joslin Smith.

This after the political party promised to provide resources that would aid the search.

The Patriotic Alliance leader – who claims he was accused of “interfering” – angrily clapped back: “You have fooled us for long. Joslin is where we draw the line. 

“We wanna see the helicopters, we wanna see the new detectives and know them, we wanna see the boats, we wanna see the dogs. We wanna see the drones. 

“We will bring Western Cape to a standstill for Joslin. Don’t fool the people. If you wanna see our might, keep on fooling us with non-existent helicopters, detectives, drones”.

Gayton revealed that he and his colleagues had taken a step back in respect of law enforcement.

He continued: “I told the team to stand down and let you continue the search and help when being called upon.  

“Moet ons nie mal maak [Dont make us angry]. Show us the things you promised or see who we can be when provoked.

GAYTON’S PROGRESS IN FINDING JOSLIN

Over the past few days, Gayton McKennzie has been hot on the trail of various leads concerning Joslin Smith’s disappearance.

This includes the following claims.

  • Joslin was allegedly spotted with a black male at Tygerberg Hospital on Wednesday.
  • A pair of fresh footprints and a kid’s shoe were discovered on the beach on Thursday morning.
  • Allegations Joslin is being “hidden” on a farm near Saldanha Bay in hopes of being sold for muthi.
  • Allegations of a mysterious room in a municipal building that may have information on her disappearance.

SAPS CALLS ON ORGANISED SEARCH EFFORTS

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Saldanha Bay, Andre Truter, has reposted a message from SAPS calling on the community to abide by authorities.

It read: “We welcome support from civilians with regard to the search, but it must be properly coordinated and within the perimeters of the law. 

“As the lead agency in investigations, mandated by law, our dedicated investigators to the case are applying the required principles of investigations as their work unfolds with a view to taking the matter to court when required”
