KUALA LUMPUR: Four people, including a Women’s March Malaysia 2024 (WMMY) committee member, have been asked to provide their statements to the police.
In a statement on Sunday (March 17) its organising committee said that the four comprised two participants, a committee member and a legal representative.
“They were called to the Dang Wangi police headquarters at 2.30pm on Monday (March 18).
“While we comply with the law and will be present with our lawyers, we also question the repeated instances of police opening up investigations against those who exercise their right to a peaceful assembly.
“The WMMY committee was not personally informed of the police’s investigation against the march,” read the statement.
It added that all citizens have the right to freedom of speech and expression, and to assemble peacefully under Article 10 of the Federal Constitution.
When contacted, Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Noor Dellhan Yahaya confirmed the matter.
He added that investigations were being conducted under the Peaceful Assembly Act and the Minor Offences Act.
