Former Celtic star defies the odds as he plays stunning key role in all but ensuring Harry Kane remains trophy-less

HARRY KANE is having to face the prospect of going ANOTHER year without a trophy.

And this time he’s been left cursing a former CELTIC fan favourite for perhaps putting the final nail in the coffin.

Kane left Tottenham Hotspur to join Bayern Munich in the summer, with the move widely expected to come with a series of medals in no time.

But Bayern lost the German Super Cup to RB Leipzig within days of Kane’s arrival and now they look in danger of kissing goodbye to their chances of winning the Bundesliga.

The Bavarian giants lost 3-0 at this season’s surprise package Bayer Leverkusen, who have taken the league by storm under former Liverpool and Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso.

Josip Stanisic – who was LOANED to Leverkusen from Bayern at the start of the season – put the hosts in front at the BayArena with a well-timed run into the back post in the 18th minute.

Five minutes into the second half Alex Grimaldo rifled home the second but Alonso’s side would have to wait until stoppage time for the icing on the cake.

And the man who did just that was ex-Celts star Jeremie Frimpong – and what a strike it was.

The goal came in dramatic fashion as Bayern threw Manuel Neuer up for a late corner, only to be caught out on the break.

Frimpong picked up the ball just inside his own half but with an empty goal, was desperate to pull the trigger.

He was quickly chased by three Bayern defenders and was forced wide but from all of 30 yards and at a ridiculous angle he fired at goal – leading to ecstasy in the stands.

The 23-year-old was mobbed by his team mates as he ran towards the bench in celebration.

Frimpong joined Leverkusen for £10m back in 2021 after bursting onto the scene in Glasgow.

He’s since earned full international honours for the Netherlands and been linked with big-money moves to Manchester United and Arsenal.

The result now puts Leverkusen five points clear at the top of the Bundesliga. Bayern are ten points ahead of Stuttgart and Borussia Dortmund below them.

Leverkusen are still unbeaten this year and with Bayern already out of the German Cup following a shock defeat to third-tier FC Saarbrücken, the league was their best chance of silverware.

Kane & co are still in the Champions League but one would fancy the likes of Manchester City, PSG and Real Madrid ahead of the Bavarians.

The English striker said: “In the final third we just weren’t good in 1v1 battles, we weren’t good in duels.

“The final delivery wasn’t there today.

“A really disappointing day with the ball.”

Alonso said: “This means the team has a great energy. We work together every way, really hard.
