Focus on pro-poor work: PM Modi’s poll mantra

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said party workers should achieve the target of 370 seats as a tribute to leader Syama Prasad Mookerjee.

He also advised party workers to build the general election campaign around the BJP’s pro-poor work and the country’s development, saying the opposition could try and raise “unnecessary emotional issues”.

He reiterated the BJP’s target of winning 370 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha election.

Winning 370 seats will be a true tribute to its key ideologue, Syama Prasad Mookerjee, Modi told party workers at the BJP’s office bearers meeting on the first day of the party’s two-day national convocation.

Mookerjee was a strident opponent of Article 370, which granted Jammu and Kashmir special rights. The Modi government scrapped the article in August 2019.

The prime minister said every booth worker should focus on ensuring at least 370 more votes for the party than in 2019 at each booth.Briefing reporters on Modi’s speech, BJP general secretary Vinod Tawde said the prime minister told the meeting that the opposition will raise “unnecessary and emotional issues” during the polls, but party members should stick to the issues of development, pro-poor policies and the country’s rising global standing.Tawde said the party will launch a campaign to reach out to the beneficiaries of central government schemes from February 25.

Modi said he has been the head of a government for nearly 23 years, including more than 12 years as Gujarat chief minister, and there has been no allegation of corruption.

“It’s been an aarop mukt and a vikas yukt period,” he said in his briefing.

Hailing Modi’s Leadership

The political resolution moved at the National Council hailed PM Modi’s visionary leadership under which India has emerged as a strong and capable nation with the goal of a Viksit Bharat by 2047. The resolution further read that 10 years of Modi government have witnessed the realization of Ram Rajya.

The resolution was moved by union defence minister Rajnath Singh and it was seconded by union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman and UP CM Yogi Adityanath.
