Flight attendant warns to be ‘vigilant’ and check a certain place in your hotel room | Travel News | Travel

One flight attendant is warning travellers to be vigilant when entering a hotel room for the first time.

Allyah McIntyre is a 27-year-old American airline attendant who has a clever safety method to check if someone may be hiding in your room while travelling.

On her TikTok account @flightattendantbaelee, Allyah said: “I don’t care how many hotels I go to, I will never stop doing my hotel security search. I check everything but you already know that.

This cloak-hanger method checks to see if an intruder is in the room safely at a safe distance without having to pull back the curtains.

She said: “A senior [airline staffer] told me to check behind the curtains with a hanger because if they grab something it will be the hanger and not you. Golden advice!”

When she first enters a hotel room, Allyah opens everything in the room and stresses it is incredibly important to make sure you are alone.

In an interview with Buzzfeed, Allyah explained: “I check anything that I can’t directly see behind: doors, curtains, large cabinets, under beds, and box springs (because it’s hollow in there)

“[It] may seem a bit dramatic, but bodies have been found in spaces like that in the past.”

Allyah has warned travellers should always be vigilant when entering a hotel and Airbnb and added: “You literally can never be too safe.”

In another video, Allyah explained she always makes sure her hotel room is locked securely as she packs a portable door lock with her whenever she travels for extra security.

She said: “I feel like the hotel locks are there to give you peace of mind, but in reality, they’re not very hard to manoeuvre past.

“There have been countless times where I’ve been locked out of my room or forgot my key and have gone to the front desk and asked for a new room key without providing any identification.”

Allyah’s safety tips for travelling have gone viral with millions of views online but many people have hotly debated in the comment section if her steps and checks are necessary.

One user said: “Isn’t living in fear like this a bit too much?” while someone else wrote: “I’m sorry but this is being paranoid.”

However, many people fully supported Allyah. One person commented: “This is so smart. It hurts my heart that you or anyone has to do this.”

Another popular comment said: “You can never be too careful!”

Allyah said: “I honestly hope people will stop living in fantasy land, thinking that things can’t or won’t happen to them.

“It’s necessary, and I hope they never have to live through an eye-opening experience first before realizing how necessary it really is.”
