Flight attendant gives tip to help parents stop babies crying on plane | Travel News | Travel

A flight attendant has taken to YouTube to share an incredibly helpful tip for parents to stop their children crying whilst on board.

Cierra Mistt works as cabin crew on a plane, often posting short videos to her YouTube channel helping tourists stay calm and comfortable when flying.

In a popular video, Cierra advised that parents can stop their young ones from crying with a paper towel and some hot water.

She explained: “If there’s a baby or a toddler crying and screaming on a plane, try this. Ask for a cup of hot water and a napkin or paper towel.

“Once you get those two things put the paper towel or napkin in the water, let it cool down for a few seconds because it is boiling hot water, and you’re going to take that and put it on the child’s ear.”

Whilst going on holiday with loved ones for the first time can be an exciting moment, many travellers dislike being stuck next to a baby or toddler crying on a flight.

However, the flight attendant noted that parents can help to calm their children down by holding paper towels soaked in hot water on their ear.

Cierra warned that they should only be applied after the towels have been cooled down for a moment to avoid burns.

The flight attendant noted that the reason why young children often cry when flying is due to their sensitive hearing.

She continued: “The reason that they are probably crying is because their ears are very sensitive to pressure change.

“That being said, the most normal time for this to happen is when we’re about to land. This also helps for the adults that [an illness] like a cold or sinus infection.”

With more than 229,000 likes, many viewers found the tip incredibly helpful and shared their own tips on how to stop children from crying and ease the pain of those feeling sick.

One viewer advised: “Bring some snacks for them to eat during the whole starting and landing [process]. The chewing will help a lot to release the pressure in small pops, so they don’t even feel it.”

Another added: “Chewing gum also helps.”
