Rob Lomas, 50, was held on suspicion of murder after the body of Marcus Smith, 19, was found.

The father of four was also arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after another teenage boy suffered a gunshot wound.

The lad was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary, along with another male in his 20s.

Police yesterday said that inquiries are continuing into the incident in Whaley Bridge, Derbyshire.

More than 1,700 people have donated to a GoFundMe page set up by Mr Lomas’ son Josh.

He wrote: “During the early hours of May 1, Rob encountered intruders inside his property, having had a burglary the night prior.

“Rob, Kate (his partner) and I now need help to clear his name.”

A local said: “There’s so much support for Rob. I think people have a lot of sympathy for him.”

Online tributes to Marcus hailed him as the “loveliest boy”.
