Alexx O’Nell’s Bollywood Journey

Well, Alex never aspired to come to India and be a part of Bollywood. In an interview with India.com, he said, “I was introduced to India in my mid-twenties and the reason was I was an actor in the US, I was a stage actor. Then, a friend of mine in India put me up for a casting ad and that turned out that the ad filmmaker was directing a film and then he put me in Cheeni Kum. Having contributed to 50 films and portraying some incredible roles, I eventually fell in love with Bollywood.”

Alexx made his Bollywood debut with mega superstar Amitabh Bachchan in Chenni Kum. He opened up about his experience and told us, “Working With Amitabh Ji in my first film was of course intimidating for a fellow extremely accomplished actor. But I had to say that he is very humble and down-to-earth human being and an actor.”

Alexx O’Nell on Being Typecast

Alexx also added the typecasting do exist in Bollywood and he has acknowledged experiencing challenges and found himself limited to certain roles. “I think I have never been chosen to play the role of a Indian man. I think we all have constraints dictated by our genes. It is our challenge to push beyond those limitations. I believe that casting is always done based on your performance, and physical traits. There are so many things I can do so, I don’t focus on things that I can’t. But yeah, typecasting does exist, I tried to sidestep it. I look for other options, such as music when I’m not acting”, Alex continued. When asked whether language has been ever a barrier, the actor said, “Yes learning Hindi is still a problem but I am working every day.”

Alexx O’Nell’s Upcoming Projects

Alexx O’Nell has recently shared screen space with actor Sara Ali Khan in Kanna Iyer’s directorial Ae Watan Mere Watan. He has played the character of John Lyre, a typical villain, who fully represents the full force of the British empire, posting a significant challenge to the underdog, Usha Mehta, played by Sara Ali Khan. He talked about his first-ever collaboration with Sara Ali Khan and said, “I was familiar with Sara’s previous work, I know she is known as the star, she is known as the celebrity, I think this film is going to position her as an excellent actress. And therefore, out of all Sara’s film, I think this this is one, I would choose to be a part of because I certainly believe that her performance will be above and beyond, rather than what she has done previously. Working with Sara was an absolute joy. I am eager to see how people will react to both my performance and hers.”

Besides being a tremendous actor, Alexx O’Nell is also a great musician and has recently launched his 6th single and music video entitled Pride. He will next be seen in Bak Bak with Divya Dutta, Lucifer 2 Empuraan with Mohanlal and Prithviraj and Phule with Pratik Gandhi.
