Europe’s best city to live has been named but its residents might be surprised | Travel News | Travel

Ever dreamed of living somewhere else? Whether your dream is sunny Spain, fashionable Italy or happiness in Finland, many Britons are interested in moving abroad.

But they might not have to as a new study has found Europe’s best city to live is right here in the UK.

A new study from the team at Resonance Consultancy found that London is the world’s best city for residents and tourists.

London topped the research’s liveability, lovability and prosperity rankings, grabbing first place in the restaurant and startup categories.

But the Big Smoke’s residents might be slightly surprised by its success. An Economist study found that London has some of the world’s highest rents compared to wages.

The Charitable Foundation Trust found that average rent for a one-bedroom property costs nearly 50 percent of average London pay.

Residents have also complained about early closures of bars and nightclubs with many saying the capital is far from a 24/7 city.

However, Resonance Capital says that a fall in the pound has made the capital much more attractive to tourists.

Paris was the continent’s second best city. The City of Light is drawing plenty of attention this year with the upcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games but it’s also one of the most expensive cities in the world.

Berlin was the world’s third best city to live in while Rome and Madrid also made the top five. Madrid made the top five for its sustainability initiatives.

Spain had two cities in the top 10 with Barcelona landing just outside the top five due to its high scores for restaurants and nightlife.
