Erasmus could leave Orlando Pirates at the end of the season

Orlando Pirates striker Kermit Erasmus’s future at the club remains uncertain with his contract expiring soon.

The 33-year-old joined the Buccaneers in 2022 from Mamelodi Sundowns but has failed to make a major impact at the club.

Erasmus was instrumental during his first stint with Orlando Pirates between 2013 and 2016. He scored 19 goals in 63 appearances for the Buccaneers before moving to Rennes.

Having spent three years overseas, the former Bafana Bafana forward returned to South Africa to join Cape Town City. His success saw him snatched by Sundowns but the former SuperSport United struggled for game time.

He controversially switched to Pirates scoring his first goal against Masandawana in October 2022.

Since then, the striker has failed to live up to expectations, scoring just three goals in his first season. Erasmus has played just six league matches for Orlando Pirates this campaign but failed to score a single goal.

According to Citizen, the Soweto Giants are undecided on Erasmus’s future at the club

“Kermit is respected at the club because of his experience and quality, but he hasn’t really played much and that is a worry for the club,” Citizen said in a report.

“The club is undecided on whether or not to offer him a new deal because of injuries. There’s still time for him to turn things around if he overcomes his injuries before the season ends.

“(Tshegofatso) Mabasa is back now and he’s scoring so they are not short of options. They also have Evidence Makgopa and Zakhele Lepasa upfront.”

Erasmus has not featured for Orlando Pirates this year with Jose Riveiro opting to go with Tshegofatso Mabasa. It remains to be seen if the striker will be given another chance to prove the selectors wrong.
