The annual gathering at the capital’s Princes Street Gardens boasts a funfair, bars and several food stalls.

However one unhappy camper was so disappointed with the “cheap” set-up they compared it to a budget retailer.

They said: “It’s basically a pound shop event. Everything has been assembled on the cheap yet it’s charged as a premium.

“If you want my advice just walk round the back of it and enter through one of the many gaps between the few trees.

“Must have changed hands since last year. Very poor.”

Another disgruntled attendee didn’t have a good word to say about the event, which runs from 17 November – 6 January.

Saying: “Utter crap, Total rip off. Everything is so overpriced and very few stalls actually sell anything Scottish.

“The queues are horrendous and once inside it gets worse.”

While one man’s jaw hit the floor after seeing the price list at one of the many food and drink stalls.

They commented: “Is this the best that Edinburgh can do for a Christmas market?

“Rip off prices and has been completely downsized and lost that magic feeling it once had, don’t waste your time.”

But it wasn’t all doom and gloom with a flood of customers over the moon at the festive experience.

One said: “A lovely day out, lots of stalls, good selection of street food, fairground rides.

“The big wheel is a must with the most amazing views across Edinburgh and beyond

Another added: “Visited on Friday no queues at all we arrived around 4.30pm and it wasn’t very busy.

“We were able to visit all the stalls and have a good look around.”

A third wrote: “Edinburgh looked lovely with all the Xmas lights. The market has some lovely items.”

While one commented: “Wonderful! So much nice food and drink (especially the Indian place), nice people and atmosphere! Highly recommended.”
