EasyJet launches two new routes from UK airport – including to an African holiday hotspot

EASYJET has launched two new flights from a UK airport to both an African and a European holiday hotspot.

The summer holidays are just around the corner and Brits are starting to plan their getaways to make the most of the warmer months.

Two destinations they could fly to from Glasgow airport this year are Larnaca in Cyprus and Enfidha in Tunisia.

The budget airline is basing a sixth aircraft at the Scottish airport, offering new flights to the two destinations.

The route to Enfidha was launched last week, with the first flight linking the two airports taking off on Thursday, May 2.

The Larnaca service was launched shortly after, with its first journey completed on Saturday, May 4.

Flights to Enfidha will now continue throughout year, twice a week, on both Thursdays and Sundays.

The Cypriot route will also be served twice a week, with planes flying on Tuesdays and Saturdays throughout the summer.

The airline told The Herald that the new routes demonstrated its “long-term commitment to Scotland by providing more great value choice, offering 86 routes across 19 countries in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa”.

Meanwhile, Glasgow airport managing director Mark Beveridge said the launch would offer “more choice and convenience” for passengers.

He told TTG: “It has been nearly 30 years since easyJet’s first-ever flight touched down in Glasgow and in the ensuing years the relationship between airline and airport has gone from strength to strength.

“Today, we welcome the addition of a sixth aircraft to easyJet’s Glasgow-based fleet, which is a significant investment and underlines the airline’s commitment to delivering growth at our airport.

“This additional aircraft will help deliver even more choice and convenience for the two million passengers who choose to travel with easyJet from our airport each year.”

Passengers heading to Enfidha in Tunisia can enjoy days at the beach, with the Gulf of Hammamet right next to the airport.

Hammamet has been labelled the “Tunisian Saint Tropez” and has one of the best beaches in the North African country.

It’s also home to vibrant markets and restaurants, allowing visitors to really get a taste of Tunisian culture and life.

Hotels.com said of the destination: “Referred to as the ‘Tunisian Saint Tropez,’ Hammamet is a vibrant, sophisticated beach town with an exciting medina, souks, restaurants, nightlife and more.

“Found to the south of the Cape Bon peninsula, the town is one of Tunisia’s prime tourist destinations and the biggest pull is the 10-km stretch of superb beach.

The gulf of Hammamet is home to one of the best beaches in Tunisia, with soft, powdery sand and warm, azure sea surrounded by palm trees – you could be forgiven for thinking you’re in the Caribbean.”

Meanwhile, a short drive away is the Unesco heritage site of El Jem, boasting the ruins of the largest colosseum in North Africa.

The 3rd century monument could hold up to 35,000 spectators and is an outstanding example of Roman architecture.

Meanwhile, Brits heading to Larnaca also have plenty of beaches to enjoy, with places like Paphos, Agios Georgios and holiday resort Ayia Napa all within driving distance from the airport.

Visit Cyprus describes the island nation as “Europe’s sunniest island” and claims it’s ideal for year-round vacations.

Flights on the new Enfidha route are available from £77, while the Larnaca route can be booked from £47.

Meanwhile, this airline has launched new flights to a lesser-visited holiday destination, home to one of the seven wonders of the world.

And this European capital is set to get brand new direct flights to the UK for the first time in four years.
