Duke’s Jon Scheyer on adding talented freshmen in the portal era: ‘We’re going to do that every day of the week’

NEW YORK — Fresh off watching freshman guard Jared McCain set a program record for 3-pointers in an NCAA Tournament game and scoring a game-high 30 points, Duke coach Jon Scheyer has no plans to change his roster-construction strategy in the transfer portal era.

“When you have a chance to bring in the freshmen that we did this year, or the freshmen for next year, we’re going to do that every day of the week,” Scheyer said in response to a question from NJ Advance Media following No. 4 Duke’s 93-55 rout of No. 12 James Madison at Barclays Center that propelled them to the Sweet 16.
