From Enoch Mpianzi to Latoya Temilton, drowning incidents during excursions continue to plague Gauteng schools. Two learners from the Daveyton Skills School have drowned on the Hennops River near Centurion.
The incident happened on Monday, 15 April.
DROWNING INCIDENTS PERSIST IN GAUTENG SCHOOLS
City of Tshwane Emergency Services spokesperson Charles Mabaso said they received a call around 15:14, where the drowning incident was reported.
Mabaso said emergency services arrived on the scene to find that two boys aged between 13 years and 16 years of age had drowned.
It is alleged that the boys were engaged in a water activity as part of a school excursion.
“The bodies were recovered by the South African Police Services (SAPS) divers and were declared dead by paramedics on the scene.
“Circumstances leading to the drowning incident remain a subject of investigation by the SAPS,” Mabaso explained.
According to SowetanLIVE, the Daveyton Skills School in East Rand caters to children with additional education needs and pupils with mild learning disabilities.

The incident comes just days after the law firm tasked with probing the death of Laerskool Queenswood Grade 7 learner Latoya Temilton, who drowned and died during a school excursion, says the principal and educators should be charged for misconduct.
Temilton, tragically lost her life in January this year during a school leadership camp at Wag ‘n Bietjie Campsite in Olifantsfontein.
