Dr M among those under MACC probe for asset declaration, says Azam Baki

PETALING JAYA: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is among those investigated regarding asset declarations, says Tan Sri Azam Baki.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner said the former premier was among those investigated by the anti-graft body.

On April 16, Dr Mahathir had claimed that graft busters were saying that he had committed an offence under Section 23 of the MACC Act, according to a notice sent to his son, Mirzan.

The notice by MACC was given to his son, Mirzan Mahathir, he added.

On Feb 16, Mirzan and his brother Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir were given another 30-day extension by the MACC to declare their assets.

On other matters, MACC, said Azam, had never stopped investigating the LCS and Scorpene issue and that it was still in contact with external parties to obtain information.

The procurement of six LCS vessels by Boustead Naval Shipyard Sdn Bhd became embroiled in scandal after it was found that only 53.29% of the project was complete as of May 31, 2019, despite the contract being signed over 10 years ago.

There is also a probe into the controversial Scorpene submarine purchase.

Azam said MACC had issued notice on asset declaration until April 28 to senior cops suspected of protecting syndicates.

On the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election, he said MACC would activate the state operations room and monitor election proceedings.

However, on the issue relating to the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), he said MACC was not taking action as it was more of an internal problem of the organisation’s administration.

He had earlier said that MACC had started an investigation into the allegations made in a poison pen letter against the FAM. – Bernama
