According to the school district, the elementary magnet school aims for its students to “become socially responsible global citizens who use technology to access the world.”
The academy’s curriculum emphasizes international students and world languages, which facilitate “critical thinking and broadens mastery of the district’s curriculum. AIS creates a supportive climate where students practice collaborative problem-solving and understand other perspectives while valuing and respecting diversity,” according to the Danbury Public Schools. Students in all grades are offered Spanish classes.

Applicants will be entered into an enrollment lottery for grades kindergarten through five. Students from Redding, Ridgefield, Danbury, New Fairfield, New Milford, Brookfield, Newtown, Bethel, Waterbury, Stamford, Norwalk, Trumbull and Woodbury are eligible to enroll, the announcement stated.
The lottery opened on Jan. 1 and closes on Jan. 16. The lottery will be drawn on Jan. 20. Families whose students have been accepted will receive letters on Feb. 1. Parents of those accepted students have until Feb. 12 to decide whether to confirm their enrollment.
All students entering kindergarten next fall must turn five years old by Sept. 1.
In 2022, the Connecticut State Department of Education named AIS among its Schools of Distinction for high academic performance and high academic growth of all students, and students identified as high needs, in English language arts and math.
