Clever method to cook fried eggs sets the yolk perfectly – ‘never flip again’

Fried eggs can be cooked in so many different ways despite always being heated in a pan.

Sunny side-up eggs make for the most picture-perfect breakfast and require no flipping, but many people prefer over-easy eggs that are flipped once and cooked until the yellow core is jammy, but not hard.

While they sound easy to cook, it’s hard to keep them intact when flipped and almost impossible to know when the yolk has reached the perfect texture.

One TikTok content creator has found a solution that cooks the egg to perfection without flipping and potentially breaking the yolk.

Sean Jimminson shared his food hacks on his TikTok account @seanjimminsonfitness.

Speaking to his fellow TikTok users, Sean described his revolutionary tip as “the fried egg hack you didn’t know you needed”.

There’s no special equipment or ingredients required either, just a simple kit consisting of a pan with a lid, an egg, and a splash of water.

Though unconventional, the water is crucial for cooking the fried egg on both sides by making use of the steam created inside the enclosed pan.

As the steam develops from the heated water, it cooks the top of the egg, specifically the yolk.

To replicate Sean’s method, simply heat a frying pan with a little oil and crack an egg directly into it.

Then, add a splash of water to the lid and quickly turn it over to cover the saucepan before leaving the egg to cook.

There’s no flipping of the egg itself required so there’s no chance of splitting the yolk in the process.

The TikTok foodie explained: “And you’ll never have to flip an egg again. Once it’s sealed, remove the lid and you’ll get perfectly cooked fried eggs every time.”

Several social media users commented on the hack, which has garnered more than 22,000 views. One User named McEnzo wasn’t convinced, claiming: “I’ve always just popped mine under the grill to cook the top.”

Another said: “My grandma taught me that in the 80s.”

Some were more taken aback by the tip, however, with one person commenting: “Never added water like this until just now! Oh my so delicately, perfectly, evenly cooked! This is how I’ll do it from now on!”
