He left his post along with lead first team scout Joe Dudgeon, who has also resigned.

Lawwell was appointed the club’s new head of scouting and recruitment in the summer of 2022, following a ten-year stint with the City Group.

But the son of Celtic chairman Peter has called it a day at Parkhead after less than two years in the position.

Speaking for the first time since his exit, Rodgers said: “As part of the Club’s recruitment team, Mark and Joe have worked tirelessly to bring success to Celtic, and I would like to wish them both the very best for the future.”

Chief executive Michael Nicholson added: “Everyone at Celtic thanks Mark and Joe for their contribution and dedication to the club, and we wish them both every success moving forward.”
