Menzies, 34, went viral on social media after posting a picture of him pulling a sink apart in his plumbing job in Milton Keynes just hours before his clash in London

He will now play World No.11 Dave Chisnall on Saturday and said: “I will be honest with you, I never thought this would happen. I was really panicky today.

“I was working but it kind of chilled me out, it made me realise that darts is a hobby and a very lucky one, too. I was so nervous, I knew that game meant a lot. What happens now is a bonus but winning that game meant the world to me.

“Going to work chilled me out. It made me realise that it is not the be-all, end-all. I am a worker. I would like to be in a situation where I can give up my job and do this full-time, but I have a long way to go.

“Fortunately I don’t work weekends. Only Monday to Friday. My company have been very good to me. They give me a lot of time off.

“It’s Christmas and New Year, we have skeleton staff and unfortunately this busy time falls at the same time as the Worlds. They have given me everything.

“I cannot complain. I wouldn’t be here without them. I appreciate it. I would have liked the day off but hobby that I am not bad at. I want to give Chizzy a kicking now.”

Madcap Menzies was his usual outrageous self with a wild walk-on and kissed partner Fallon Sherrock before getting on stage.

Despite the waving of arms, pulling faces and over-zealous celebrations, he comfortably took the opening three legs which included two maximum 180s, to win the first.

Menzies kept up his wacky display with tops to make it four legs on the bounce. However Rodriguez suddenly awoke with his first two legs of the match.

But a wonderful 118 and tops finish gave him the set and he celebrated by throwing his darts on the table and flashing his belly to the fans!

Menzies opened the third set with a 180 but Rodriguez fought back to make the most of the Scot’s missed doubles to led 2-1.

However Menzies grabbed a vital double 16 to go within one leg of the match. Then he hit a huge 180 and double three to wrap it up.

The Ayrshire ace caused a storm on social media after posting a picture of him pulling a sink apart in his plumbing job in Milton Keynes.

Menzies, 34, was called up for a late fix at 11am, just nine hours before facing Rusty-Jake Rodriguez in the first round of the PDC World Championships tonight.

Menzies posted a picture on social media of him on his knees in a customer’s bathroom with the caption: “Working before the World’s. What a joy.”

Then after finishing the job and dashing off to London for his Ally Pally clash. He took a selfie of himself before stating: “Plumbing at 11. Darts at 8. Finished.”

Menzies has previously admitted that his job had caused him to lose at the Players Championship because his hands were left NUMB by using power tools.

He added: “I had issues with my hands at the Players Championship. It happens after I use certain power tools which vibrate. My hands were a bit numb-ish.

“I’ve now got gloves to wear and I’ll only use my left hand but before any darts tournaments I’ve stopped using he power tools altogether!

“I feared that it might be a Carpal tunnel syndrome problem but the docs said it was the tools I was using.”
