British Actor Tom Wilkinson Passes Away at 75

British actor and two-time Oscar-nominee, Tom Wilkison passed away on Saturday at the age of 75. The news of his demise was shared by his family, according to a report published in The Hill. Wilkison was remembered for his supporting roles in suspense movies such as Michael Clayton and In the Bedroom. The actor received a Bafta award for his performance in The Full Monty in 1997. He later revisited the character Gerald in a Disney+ streaming series that explored the characters’ lives 26 years later. Tom, who was famous for his role in Batman Begins, received six Bafta nominations in total as well as two Oscar nominations.

According to the statement released by the portal, the actor suddenly died at his some with his wife and family. The agent confirmed the death of the actor on his family’s behalf in a statement said, “It is with great sadness that the family of Tom Wilkinson announce that he died suddenly at home on December 30. His wife and family were with him.”

George Clooney, who worked with Wilkinson in the 2007 legal thriller Michael Clayton, appreciated the actor and called him ‘the epitome of elegance.’ Paying tribute to Tom, Clooney in a conversation with Variety magazine said, “Tom made every project better. He made every actor better. He was the epitome of elegance and he will be dearly missed by all of us.”

Accumulating over 130 film and TV credits, Wilkinson demonstrated versatility by seamlessly transitioning between period dramas such as Sense and Sensibility (1995) and Belle (2013), and taking on roles as criminal masterminds in films like Rush Hour alongside Jackie Chan in 1998, or Guy Ritchie’s RocknRolla in 2008.

Apart from Oscar, the actor also bagged an Emmy for playing US political figure Benjamin Franklin in the 2008 mini-series John Adams. Tom was nominated for another Emmy nomination as John F Kennedy’s father Joe in The Kennedys.
