A man shared a picture of his cheese toastie with the world – and now people are threatening to never visit Europe.
The questionable dish was shared on Reddit after the man posted a snap of the creation on Facebook, and it’s left people in total shock. It was shared alongside the caption: “Cheese and onion toastie tonight. £0.85p.”
When you look at the picture, you’ll see a piece of white bread topped with butter, cheese and some raw red onion. What’s perplexed a lot of people is that it doesn’t seem to have been cooked.
It’s hard to tuck into a toastie when the foodie favourite hasn’t been toasted, right? Naturally, it’s got a lot of people talking on social media.
Foodies were left perplexed that somebody would actually pay for a toastie which hasn’t been cooked. Talk about disappointing!
Hundreds of people have been talking about the toastie since it was shared, with one joking: “It needs more toasting.” The puns kept rolling in when it came to the bread blunder.
One said: “How could someone pay for that?” Another wrote: “This is not for onion lovers. This is for sad people who are also British.”
A third replied: “Come on now… put some effort! Ramsay would be dissapointed. Fry them onions up and then melt the cheese on a toasted bread.”
Meanwhile, a fourth also commented: “This is why I’m scared to visit Europe – the cheap food looks s**t.”
People really weren’t left amused by the offering, but some did offer a different take on the dish. It seems as though some would actually give it a go!
Even though the dish looks a little questionable, some said there’s a chance it could work. They even compared it to some of their other favourite snacks.
One chimed in with: “As an American, I’d spend 85 pence on that. More if they’d add more cheese and onions. The exchange rate is still pretty good.”
Another wrote: “We have had something here in Sweden, where it’s lard/porkfat, mixed with red onions, salt and I believe a small measure of whiskey or swedish alcohol.”
A third also noted: “Bread with pork fat and onions, the Eastern European classic. Grew up poor but when we had this for dinner I felt like a king.”
When it comes to food, we guess you learn something new every day. Whatever your thoughts on the matter – that’s a lot of raw onion to chomp on!
